What is this place?

D5-5a is a fan site dedicated to the memory and image of the old MUTCD traffic sign with that designation. The 1988 MUTCD (pdf) stipulated that the D5-5a "Rest Area" sign was a picnic table beside a leaning tree. By the 2000 MUTCD (pdf), it had been replaced by a larger picnic table cross section.

We feel that the older sign, the smaller picnic table in the shadow of a leaning spruce, symbolizes all the roadside picnic locations we've enjoyed over the years.
