A picture is worth a thousand words
At one time, the square, blue traffic sign depicting a picnic table beside a leaning tree could be seen all across America. It was the official indication to drivers that a rest area was nearby where you could stop, stretch your legs, admire the view and have a picnic.
Since then, it was decided that a simpler sign with less detail would be more effective and the picnic table beside a leaning tree became just a picnic table.
